Tyre Management

Tyre management that follows every tyre from purchase to scrap

Tyres are one of the largest controllable costs in a truck fleet and one of the least controlled. Gonyeti records each tyre by serial number and tracks where it is fitted, how far it has run and what happened to it.

What is a tyre management system?

A tyre management system records each tyre as an individual asset: its serial number, size, supplier, cost and warranty, which vehicle and wheel position it is fitted to, the odometer reading when it went on and came off, and whether it was retreaded, transferred or scrapped.

In Gonyeti, tyre management is part of the wider fleet management system, so tyre records sit alongside the horse or trailer, its trips, its maintenance history and its costs.

The problem

Why tyre costs get away from transport companies

Most fleets know what they spent on tyres last month. Very few know which tyres, on which trucks, delivered the kilometres they paid for.

No serial-number history

Tyres are bought in batches and fitted wherever they are needed. Once on a truck, the purchase record and the tyre stop being connected.

Swaps nobody records

Tyres move between axles, horses and trailers during rotations, breakdowns and roadside repairs. Without a record, mileage per tyre is guesswork.

Retreads that disappear

Casings sent for retreading come back, or don't. Without tracking, you cannot tell whether a retread programme is saving money.

Warranty claims missed

Premature failures are only claimable if you can prove the fitment date and mileage. Paper records rarely survive long enough.

Theft and substitution

Good tyres swapped for worn ones are hard to detect when nobody records serial numbers at each position.

Cost per km unknown

Without mileage per tyre, buying decisions are made on purchase price rather than cost per kilometre.

How Gonyeti solves it

Every tyre is an asset with a position and a history

Gonyeti registers tyres when they are purchased or received into stores, with serial number, size (width, aspect ratio and rim diameter), tread depth, supplier, cost and warranty expiry.

When a tyre is fitted, it is assigned to a specific horse, trailer or vehicle, axle and position, with the odometer reading at fitment. When it comes off, the closing odometer is recorded, so the kilometres it ran in that position are calculated rather than estimated.

  • Tyres stocked in stores and issued through requisitions
  • Fitment by vehicle, axle and wheel position
  • Starting and ending odometer per fitment
  • Retread batches tracked out and back
  • Transfers between vehicles, stores and branches
  • Depreciation and residual value per tyre

Capabilities

Tyre management capabilities in Gonyeti

Tyre register
Each tyre has a unique number and serial number, size, type, tread depth, expected life, supplier, purchase cost and warranty expiry date.
Axle and position fitment
Assign tyres to a horse, trailer or vehicle by axle and position. See the full tyre layout of any unit at a glance.
Mileage per tyre
Odometer readings at fitment and removal give kilometres run per tyre and per position, including across several vehicles.
Purchases and stock
Tyre purchases, goods received, requisitions from the workshop and dispatch from stores, with stock levels per store.
Retread management
Send casings for retreading in batches, track them with the retreader and receive them back as retreaded tyres with their own history.
Transfers and disposals
Move tyres between stores, branches and vehicles, and record disposal when a tyre reaches the end of its life.
Depreciation
Tyre cost is depreciated over its expected life or mileage, giving a residual value and a true cost per kilometre.
Workshop and stores link
Tyres are requisitioned from stores by the workshop and fitted against a specific unit, so tyre cost lands on the right horse or trailer.
Tyre reports and exports
Tyre lists, assignment history per horse and per trailer, and exports to Excel for analysis.

Inside Gonyeti

How tyres are managed in Gonyeti

Fitment

See which tyre is on which wheel

Open any horse or trailer and see every fitted tyre by axle and position, with the date fitted and the odometer at fitment. When a tyre is moved, the old assignment closes and a new one opens, so its mileage carries across.

  • Assignment history per unit
  • Exportable tyre layout per horse and trailer

Retreads

Know where every casing is

Casings are dispatched for retreading as a batch. Gonyeti tracks the batch with the retreader, records what comes back, and keeps the retreaded tyre linked to its original history so you can judge whether retreading pays.

  • Retread batches with documents
  • Retreaded tyres keep their history

Typical workflow

From purchase to disposal

  1. 01

    Purchase and receive

Tyres are bought from a supplier and received into a store with serial numbers, cost and warranty.

  2. 02

    Requisition and fit

The workshop requisitions tyres and fits them to a horse or trailer, recording axle, position and odometer.

  3. 03

    Rotate and transfer

Rotations, swaps and transfers close one assignment and open another, keeping mileage continuous.

  4. 04

    Retread or dispose

Worn casings go for retreading or are disposed of, closing the tyre's record with its total kilometres.

Why it matters

What tyre control gives a transport business

Buy on cost per km, not price

Kilometres per tyre by brand and supplier show which tyres actually cost less to run.

Fewer unexplained replacements

Every removal is recorded with its mileage, so tyres that fail early stand out.

Stronger warranty claims

Fitment date, position and mileage are on record when a tyre fails before it should.

Deterrent to theft

Serial numbers recorded at each position make swapped tyres visible during inspections.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Can Gonyeti track tyres on trailers as well as horses?
Yes. Tyres can be assigned to horses (prime movers), trailers and other vehicles, each by axle and position. A tyre moved from a trailer to a horse keeps its full history.
How is tyre mileage calculated?
Each fitment records the vehicle odometer when the tyre goes on and when it comes off. The difference is the distance run in that position, and the total across fitments is the tyre's lifetime mileage.
Does Gonyeti handle retreads?
Yes. Casings can be dispatched to a retreader in batches with supporting documents, tracked while away, and received back as retreaded tyres.
Can tyre purchases be linked to suppliers and stores?
Yes. Tyre purchases are recorded against a supplier, received into a store and issued to the workshop through requisitions, so stock and cost are tracked. See fleet maintenance for how tyre work fits into job cards.
Can I export tyre data?
Tyre lists and tyre assignments per horse can be exported to Excel for further analysis.
